Welcome to the Hewson Community Center Library’s Summer Newsletter!

As the days grow longer and warmer, we’re excited to bring you a summer full of enriching activities and community events. Our library, located in the heart of downtown Baker Springs, is buzzing with excitement, and we have a fantastic lineup of events and services for patrons of all ages. Whether you’re a book lover, an art enthusiast, or simply looking for a fun way to spend your summer days, we have something special for you.


Summer Events at Hewson Community Center Library

Public Readings and Author Signings

Children’s Storytime

  • Date: Every Tuesday and Thursday
  • Time: 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM
  • Details: Join us for a magical hour of stories, songs, and crafts. Perfect for children aged 3-7.

Young Adult Book Club

  • Date: Every Wednesday
  • Time: 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
  • Details: A great opportunity for teens to discuss popular young adult novels and meet fellow book lovers.

Author Meet and Greet: Jane Doe

  • Date: June 21
  • Time: 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM
  • Details: Meet local author Jane Doe, who will be reading from her latest novel, “Summer in Baker Springs.” Book signing to follow.

Poetry Reading with Mark Twain Prize Winner

  • Date: July 15
  • Time: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
  • Details: An evening of poetic inspiration with the winner of this year’s Mark Twain Prize for Poetry.

Art Exhibits and Lessons

Summer Art Exhibit: “Colors of Baker Springs”

  • Date: June 1 – August 31
  • Details: A showcase of local artists capturing the vibrant life of our community. Opening reception on June 1 at 6:00 PM.

Children’s Art Lessons

  • Date: Every Saturday
  • Time: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Details: Kids aged 6-12 can explore their creativity with fun, hands-on art projects. Materials provided.

Watercolor Workshop for Adults

  • Date: July 10
  • Time: 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
  • Details: Learn the basics of watercolor painting in a relaxed and friendly environment. No prior experience needed.

Special Programs and Services

Summer Reading Challenge

  • Duration: June 1 – August 31
  • Details: Encourage your children to keep reading over the summer. Track their progress and earn rewards!

Tech Help Tuesdays

  • Date: Every Tuesday
  • Time: 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
  • Details: Need help with your tablet, e-reader, or smartphone? Our tech-savvy volunteers are here to help.

Family Game Nights

  • Date: Every Friday
  • Time: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
  • Details: Unplug and enjoy some quality family time with board games and puzzles. All ages welcome.

Career Development Workshops

  • Date: Various dates throughout the summer
  • Details: Enhance your resume, improve your interview skills, and learn job-search strategies with our expert-led workshops. Check our website for specific dates and topics.

ESL Classes

  • Date: Every Monday and Wednesday
  • Time: 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM
  • Details: Free English as a Second Language classes for adults. Improve your language skills in a supportive environment.

Book Swap

  • Date: July 20
  • Time: 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
  • Details: Bring a book, take a book! A fun way to refresh your home library and discover new favorites.

Additional Services

Free Wi-Fi and Computer Access

  • Available during all library hours. Use our computers or bring your own device to stay connected.

Study Rooms

  • Reserve a quiet space for studying or group work. Available on a first-come, first-served basis.
