High School Performance
The City of Baker Springs tracks high school performance annually in order to determine whether or not the city is providing a pathway to higher education that is in accordance with performance measures and standards set by the State of Tennessee. Each year, the City of Baker Springs publishes a report on high school student performance and school statistics that include:
- Graduation rates
- Student success rates
- Achievement
- Growth
- Growth for highest need students
- College & career readiness
- Student population
- Student to teacher ratio
These measures are then used to determine which schools are well prepared to help students develop the skills they will need to embark into higher education. Achievement, Growth, Growth for Highest Need Students, and College & Career Readiness can be used to calculate a score that is translated to a letter grade of A, B, C, D, or F for each of the City’s 17 different high schools. Explore the page below in order to better understand each of the included parameters.
Graduation Rates

This year, the Tennessee Department of Education reported an average high school graduation rate of 90%. This past year, the high schools in the City of Baker Springs reported an average graduation rate of 85% — 5 percentage points lower than the Tennessee state average, indicating room for growth.

Unlike Growth, Growth for Highest Need Students is an internal measure of students’ scores. It also places a special emphasis on schools’ abilities to support the bottom 25% of students.
Baker Springs Average: 2.65
College & Career Readiness
College & Career Readiness is a scoring category that is exclusive to high schools. It is intended to measure the degree to which schools are able to ready students to enter post-secondary learning institutions, trade industries, and the military, and factors in ACT scores, ASVAB scores, and certifications.
Baker Springs Average: 2.79
School Letter Grade
Each year, the Tennessee Department of Education distributes letter grades ranging from A to F to every publicly operated school in the state. The goal of these grades is to give parents clear performance measures that indicate how well their child’s school is preparing them for the post-secondary education world. For all schools, letter grades are calculated using four indicators, given their own scores and weights. For high schools, calculations use the following indicators and weights:
- Achievement (ACH) – 50%
- Growth (GTH) – 30%
- Subgroup – Lowest 25% (G25) – 10%
- College & Career Readiness (CCR) – 10%
Factoring in Achievement, Growth, Growth for Highest Need Students, and College & Career Readiness, the average high school in the City of Baker Springs received a score of 2.79, or a C letter grade, while the median school received a score of 2.6 – also a C letter grade. In comparison, the average high school in Tennessee received a score of 3.32 (a C), and the median high school received a score of 3.3 (also a C). Both the average and median letter grades for high schools in Baker Springs were on par with those for high schools in the state at-large, but number scores for both the average and mean high schools were lower in the City compared to the State of Tennessee.
